#GameDayEve Charlotte Independence Edition

by Marissa Blackman

Today, the Wilmington Hammerheads will play against Charlotte Independence for the first time ever. Both teams have only played one regular season game so far. The Hammerheads drew 2-2 with Richmond Kickers, and the Independence lost 2-3 to Charleston Battery.

While Charlotte Independence may be new to USL, there is nothing new about the club's roster. Several of the Independence players have experience in both USL and MLS.

This week the Hammerheads signed a new goal keeper named Andre Rawls

The Hammerheads are dealing with injury woes at the moment with several player being unavailable. This is no cause for Hammerheads fans to worry. Fortunately, the squad is deep enough to make up for these absences. With the exception of Sunny Jane, who was injured during the season opener, all of these players were injured prior to the first match. The team on the field last week was capable of dominating the Kickers for at least a portion of the match and scoring two goals early on. This is an already good squad that will only improve when the injured players return.

Both of these clubs fought hard in their respective matches last week and did not get the desired results. These are two hungry teams full of very capable players. Tomorrow's match is sure to be an exciting one where two teams battle to secure the first win of the season.

No futebol europeu, a velocidade durante a partida inteira é algo natural.

#GameDayEve Charlotte Eagles Edition

by Marissa Blackman The 2017 PDL season kicks off for Wilmington Hammerheads FC with an away match against the Charlotte Eagles. The match will be the first of the season for both clubs. Last season, the Eagles finished at the top of the table and advanced to the playoffs. In the fourteen matches of the regular season, the club earned an 11-2-1 record. The club tallied thirty-four points and only conceded eight times. The club's playoff run ended quickly with 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tri-Cities FC that knocked the club out of the competition. Santiago Moar, who currently plays for USL side Bethlem Steel FC, spent the 2016 season with the Charlotte Eagles. To reach the playoffs, the Hammerheads must finish the season as one of the top two teams in the South Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. There are eleven teams in the South Atlantic Division. The only two clubs in the division that have played a match so far are North Carolina FC U-23 and Tobacco Road FC. T
